Welcome!

Kelly Everfree, our new preschool teacher and family program coordinator, is fully in the groove of things at YYFAP. Kelly started teaching preschool in September, with Carol Ritter as her mentor. She took charge in October. She is enjoying her class of 8 children, and this is what she has to say about the experience: "Coming inside with their wind-blown hair and rosy cheeks, hanging their rain-soaked coats to dry, the preschoolers have no doubt that our coastal fall is back! In school we are talking about the season of fall and all that is observed; the changing color of leaves, the cold wind, and animals looking for food.

We are also talking about families, for November is family month. We have read stories about families in the Amazon, in Japan, and families of animals, and we have many more to read! In addition to our stories and discussion time, the preschoolers have been learning many subjects through all their senses. For instance, the preschoolers followed a recipe for 'gloop' and counted out measurements of water, boric acid, and Elmer's glue. They then watched a chemical reaction when the solutions were added together. They experienced the product also by feeling with their hands, coloring it with markers, and cutting it with scissors. So in one project they learned math, chemistry, and cause and effect -- all through play!

Other learning experiences include games, puppet shows, art, painting, letter writing, pretend, baking, blocks, and much more!"

YYFAP Preschool still has a few spaces left for toddlers ages 3-5. Classes are on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings from 9:30-12:30. Fees are assessed on a sliding scale from $85-$125 per month. For more information, call 547-4599 and ask for Kelly.

In addition, if you would like to volunteer please contact Kelly at 547-4599. Thank you!
